Book 6

The Sleepless One

Status: Prose draft completed

After Moonlight, the Wealdath does not go quiet.

Rishi and Maeril remain among the Suldusk, still caught between guest, burden, witness, and danger. The broken mythal is stirring. The Staff of Warding, changed by sacrifice and living magic, begins to answer something hidden beneath the trees.

What wakes is not a monster. Not exactly.

It is a Sleepless One: an ancient guardian made to watch the old magic of the forest when living minds could not endure the vigil forever. It should have stayed hidden. Instead, it wakes to Maeril’s hand, to the staff’s pulse, and to a crisis older than the Moonglade house fully understands.

The staff is no longer only a ward, a weapon, or a gift of love.

It has become a bridge.

And somewhere in the Wealdath, whatever damaged the mythal is still moving.
